SEEN: my new favorite shampoo and conditioner

I have always had sensitive skin and scalp but have never been able to find a good unscented shampoo. I am super sensitive to pretty much everything – fragrances, dyes, weird ingredients etc. I have tried so many shampoos over the years, and have not once found one that doesn’t bother my skin and actually works. I also recently was having some redness on my forehead that was new to me, when I went to my dermatologist I found out that I have seborrheic dermatitis. She mentioned I should switch to not only a natural shampoo, but one that is unscented as well because even natural scents can irritate the condition.

I have been using SEEN shampoo and conditioner for about a month now and it is by far the best I have ever tried! Honestly I am so excited, I feel like my lifelong search for shampoo is over. It’s clean, won’t make your skin breakout, fragrance free, developed by a Harvard-trained dermatologist and comes in the prettiest bottles. They also have a scented version as well if your skin is not the highest maintenance ever.

SEEN products are clean and are made with NO: clogging oils, silicones, phthalates, sulfates, parabens, dyes, formaldehyde, cocamidopropyl betaine, gluten, soy, or hidden irritants.

Another thing I love about this company is their commitment to giving back through helping children feel “SEEN”. SEEN donates to support clinics in developing countries which treat children with disfiguring birthmarks and scars (Dr. Rubin, the founders medical specialty!)

You can shop all their products by clicking here! You can also use code: MARGEAUX10 to save 10% on your order.

I would love to hear what you think after trying it!

Here is a list of their key ingredients and the benefits of each.

Key Ingredients:
• Hemisqualane: Plant-sugar derived, nature’s answer to silicone; reduces frizz;
• provides color and heat protection
• Bisabolol: Naturally-derived ingredient with skin-soothing properties
• Shea butter cetyl esters (Conditioner, Curly Creme): Conditions and softens
• Squalane (Curly Creme, Blow-Out Creme): Plant-sugar derived; adds glass-like shine,
• heat protection; strengthens hair
• Ceratonia siliqua (carob tree) (Curly Creme, Blow-Out Creme): Strengthens hair
• Moringa oleifera (horseradish tree) (Curly Creme, Blow-Out Creme): UV/pollution protection for hair

Coffee Table Books

I don’t think you can ever have enough coffee table books. I always have a list saved of new ones I want and anytime I see one in a magazine or in someone else’s house I take a picture and then try to find it online. I usually have luck finding good ones in speciality shops and grocery stores, on interior design blogs or instagram and at local book stores or used book shops! I love switching them out for each season, it’s such an easy way to refresh your space and a fun collection to have and keep adding to over the years! Here are a few of my favorites, and some I am eyeing. All books are clickable!

2021 Trends

2020 was all about tie dye, whipped coffee and bike shorts. But what will 2021 bring us? Here are some trends I am seeing and loving for the new year! All images via pinterest.

Kitchen Lamps – the cutest way to add more light to your kitchen!

Marble Shelves In Kitchens / Kitchen Shelfies – i love this look.

Shoulder Pad Blazers – into this, very Diana.

Pastel’s – not super ground breaking but I love the monochrome look.

Hoodies Under Blazers – i.n.t.o. t.h.i.s.

These Bags from 2000 – good thing I kept mine. The best advice I can give you is literally E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. comes back in style.

Slipper Shoes – i am very into this, i can’t believe i used to wear shoes all day?

Skincare / Skinimilisim – remember when we used to wear makeup? i have added gua shua into my routine and it feels so good, it releases so much tension i didn’t realize i had in my face and it also reduces wrinkles! i use it with this orchid oil and then use the bakuchoil at night – bakuchoil is a great natural retinol alternative!

my favorite purchases of 2020

images via pinterest

What. A. Year. Although this year has been scary, sad, challenging, unpredictable and anything but normal I am grateful for all the lessons and perspective it brought me. Like reinforcing what truly matters to me: my health, my family, my friends, my house and fighting for what you believe in. What I want to spend my time doing: pilates, getting fresh air, cooking and drinking my coffee at home every morning. That you only get one life, so you have to live in the moment and take that trip when you have the chance. And that loungewear eliminates the need to pick out an outfit every day. After the many lessons this year brought I have been reminded about what is important and what I want to spend money on. I put a lot of thought into each of these purchases before I made them and I know that is why they made it on this list. Enjoy!

Melissa Wood Health Membership – I found Melissa on instagram and instantly loved her voice and her vibe. She is so calm and comforting. I always was more of a class girl and had a hard time working out on my own or at home, but once everything closed I knew I needed to find something to keep me moving that I would actually want to do every day. I started with the free trial and ended up doing a video every single day. It was not even a question if I would purchase the membership. I felt so much better in such a short amount of time not only physically but most importantly mentally. I always catch my self smiling and laughing during her classes and am in such a happy, positive and refreshed mood when I am done. I love that there are classes in all different lengths so if you only have 15 minutes you can still do something! I also like combining a few shorter pilates videos back to back or adding on a dance warm up or meditation. Her mediations are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. I cannot recommend her enough.

Bala Bangles – See above, Melissa wears these in a lot of her videos (but you can totally do without them). After a few weeks I wanted the option to add a little bit of weight so I looked for these and they were sold out everywhere! I got on a waitlist and as soon as they came I totally understood why they were sold out. First of all, they are cute. Second, they are so comfortable to wear and have the softest feel to them. Third, they come with a zip up case and are super easy to travel with.

Record Player – I pretty much stopped watching TV this year because I just can’t handle the news. I started putting music on all the time but I didn’t have a good speaker set up and liked the idea of shutting my computer at night and not having to rely on Spotify. I had been wanting a record player for a while but was just keeping it in my cart. I got this at the beginning of quarantine and it was such a good purchase. Also, my parents moved this Summer and had a huge cabinet full of records they didn’t want so I went through all of their old records to start my collection. I love putting it on at night when I am cooking, it’s so fun to listen to old songs and really feels like you are disconnected because you don’t have to look at a screen or a phone. I got a new record for Christmas and I can’t wait to listen to it!

Espresso Machine – I am a coffee snob. I used to stop and get a coffee every morning at S&L cafe. It was the highlight of my day, Dan the owner is so sweet and they make the best americanos! Now that I am at home everyday it didn’t make sense to drive to the coffee shop but I really missed my daily espresso. This espresso machine is small enough that it fits on my counter and it’s made in Italy, so you know it’s good. If you are looking for something a little less expensive, I also have this stovetop espresso maker and love it!

PJ Salvage Lounge Set // Top // Bottoms – This is the best lounge set ever. I literally wear this every day. It is a waffle material, with stretch, so flattering and so comfortable. This is my most worn thing this year by far. You know when you find the perfect jeans or yoga pants or etc? This is that, the perfect lounge set. Trust me. I have three colors and wish I would have gotten multiple sets because if they ever discontinue them I will cry. I have a medium top and small bottoms (I like my lounge tops looser though but I would say they are true to size).

Alo Lounge Leggings – Building off finding the perfect pair of yoga pants above, these are them. I also have these in two colors and have a laundry schedule to make sure one pair is always clean because I exclusively wear these now. The fabric is so soft I don’t even know how they do it. And the waistband is the most comfortable and flattering. It is a bit thicker but not too tight at all, it forms to your body so you don’t feel squished or constrained at all.

Free People Bralette – I always lean towards wearing bralettes instead of real bras but these are a new level of comfort. Plus you can wear them for pilates (see above) or you can wear it under your sweatshirt so you feel somewhat put together. In the summer I also wore them solo as a crop top! They pretty much form to your body but don’t stretch out. I got the xs/s and recommend getting a few colors to rotate throughout the week.

Herbivore Hand Sanitizer – I am obsessed with everything Herbivore does and their hand sanitizer has been my favorite. It is a gel, but has a little pump so it’s super easy to put on. It doesn’t dry out your hands. It comes in a glass bottle. It’s cute. You get it.

Bottlehouse Wine ClubBottlehouse is the cutest little wine bar/restaurant in Seattle, imagine like the little house from The Holiday, but a wine bar. It has always been one of my favorite places for happy hour. When they had to close for a bit I was so worried they wouldn’t make it. I wanted to support them however I could and had been wanting to join their wine club anyway. The theme for this year was organic and biodynamic, so basically ideal for me because that means no hangovers. I get a white, rose and a red four times a year. Their packaging is the cutest ever and I love going there to pick it up!

Cool Biden Hat – I found this account on instagram and love what they are doing. They sell corduroy Biden/Harris hats and all proceeds go to the ACLU or The New Georgia Project.

ski fashion

I started skiing when I was two, both of my parents are pretty good skiers so they would take us all over the place every winter. Some of my favorite memories are at ski cabins with our family friends, there would be about ten of us and we would wake up and have a big breakfast in the morning and then go skiing all day! Then at night everyone would rotate cooking dinner and we would hang out at the cabin by the fire. It was so cozy and such a fun tradition.

Once I got older I switched to snowboarding because it was the cool thing at the time. I snowboarded for a few years but never really got very good! Skiing is like riding a bike, since I started skiing so young it always felt super awkward to go down the mountain sideways. And don’t even get me started on getting off the chairlift sideways, with only one foot strapped in. Who decided that was a good idea? A few times I just felt so off, like I was going to face-plant in front of everyone. I waited too long to get off and then it was too late, so I had to ride back down the chairlift. Which is scarier than just getting off by the way! Long story short, I switched back to skiing a few years ago because it is just way more fun for me and I know how to get off the chairlift on skiis 🙂

My parents moved to Montana this summer and live about twenty minutes to a ski resort so I am sure I will be skiing a lot more often. I wanted to get some new ski clothes since I had still been wearing my snowboard gear even though I switched back to skiing. Here are some things that caught my eye so you will be warm but still look cute on the slopes! My family thinks I am crazy and always tell me “It’s not a fashion show”. But really, it is.

gift guide // for the home

Looking back, I have always loved home stuff. But as I have gotten older and especially this year, I have found things for my home are the things I want the most on my list! I think it is because you use this stuff daily, so to me they are the kind of gift that keeps on giving. I strongly believe that stuff you use every day should be pretty, functional and make you happy. To me, it is so worth spending a little extra money on something you truly love. Here are some of my favorite things I use all the time and a few things I hope are under the tree.

friday five

Happy Friday! It is feeling so festive around here, I can’t believe it’s December 11th! I have already finished all my Christmas shopping but I am always browsing for my new favorite thing. Here is what I am loving this week! Have a good weekend!

  1. Menu Design Shop. I just discovered this shop and it is Such. A. Vibe. MENU is a Scandinavian brand creating contemporary design within furniture, lighting and accessories. I want everything. I have really been trying to minimize my life, house, closet etc. and their shop is a great place to get inspired!

2. Varley. Varley and Anine Bing did a style edit to create athlesiture meets fashion looks. I have really invested in a lot of new athleisture pieces this year and know I will continue to wear them over and over. I loved all the looks they put together and got a lot of inspo for my loungewear looks!

3. Skincare. I have really gotten into skincare the last couple years but self care and taking care of my skin is one thing that has really kept me sane this year. I love Herbivore Botanicals so much. They are from Seattle and a few years ago a family friend told me about how amazing her skin was after switching to their products. At the time I was having major skin problems and decided to throw out everything I had been using on my skin and bought one of their facial bar soaps, an oil and their night cream. After a few days my skin was literally so much better and after about two weeks my acne was completely gone. I tell everyone about them because they made such a difference in my skin and have since bought almost every product they have. A few of my faves are the Prism Exfoliating Glow Serum, Blue Tansy Mask, Rose Quartz Roller and the Phoenix Facial Oil.

4. Crystals. When I first started reading about crystals a few years ago I was hesitant to say the least. However now I don’t know what I did without my crystals! They make me feel so calm and I love sprinkling them around the house or putting them on my yoga mat when I am doing pilates. I love these blog posts on all the different kinds and what you can use them for.

5. Sequins. Even though the holidays are going to be different this year, I keep reaching for all my sequin things! I kind of have a collection and it’s sort of a joke among my friends. Every holiday season I add a few new pieces to my collection and Nordstrom always has a good selection. Sequins make everything happier!

friday five

Happy Friday! Rounding up five things I am loving this week. Spending so much time at home has me wanting to make little updates around the house, pretty much every day. Literally every time I walk by something I am re-arranging or thinking of a new design idea. So this weeks Friday five is all home related, enjoy!

  1. Coffee. I love this mug. Since I am making coffee at home almost every day, I really look forward to choosing my mug in the morning. This one is so cute, neutral and earthy.
  2. Studio McGee. I am guilty of binging Studio McGee on Netflix in one day. I love their vibe so much! One thing they always incorporate in their deigns is large vases with fresh florals and greens. I have been loving olive branches lately, they have a holiday feel but are not your typical holiday greens! I also really love this wall hook from their shop. I have a problem with coats and I feel like this time of year I usually wear three different coats every day (I have an outfit change problem). These hooks are perfect to corral my coat collection so I don’t throw them around the house when my coat closet gets too full.
  3. Book. I have the biggest girl crush on Athena Calderone and I have been loving her new book. It is so inspiring and perfect to keep on my coffee table to browse through any chance I get!
  4. Wine Holder. There is nothing like opening a good bottle of wine at the end of the night to sip as you start cooking dinner. This wine holder is so pretty and also doubles as a decorative piece when you are not using it for wine!
  5. All The Light. It gets dark so early these days so I am adding extra light to my house any way I can. I love this gold lamp and these ribbed candlesticks. I love lighting all my candles at night, you can never have too many.

gift guide // for her

Here is every thing I am loving lately, all make great gifts for her! I always try to shop local stores, but this year I think it is even more important to support small business in every way we can. I am doing my best to do all my holiday shopping directly from small business. Whether it is a boutique or a restaurant! Whenever I could I liked directly to local and small businesses from Seattle!

Thanksgiving is coming up so soon! After such a crazy year I am so thankful to be spending Thanksgiving with my boyfriend and family. My parents just moved into a new house this Summer, so this will be our first Thanksgiving in a different house than we grew up in! Here are a few of my favorite things for a cozy, small and safe Thanksgiving. We will be packing a lot of this in the car for the week! All of these make great hostess or housewarming gifts too. beachy dreaming

This year has been a challenge in so many ways. But one thing it has done is remind me of what is important and helped me to narrow down what really matters to me. Some of those things are, my family, my health, spending time with the people I love, new experiences and travel. I have been thinking a lot about the first vacation I want to take once it’s safe to travel again, and it is definitely going to be somewhere warm. I can’t wait to sit by the pool or walk on the beach and get some serious vitamin D. I usually take at least two beach or warm weather vacations every winter. It is necessary living in Seattle! This year I haven’t been able to do that, but I have been dreaming, planning and browsing all the beachy things on pinterest.

One of the first things I always thing about when planning a trip is what I am going to pack. Over the years I have learned that less really is more, especially during a beach vacation! I always end up wearing and using the same staples over and over and it’s so much easier to relax and live in the moment when you only have a few pieces to choose from. Something else that is a must is a good bag that you can take from the plane to the pool to the beach and to dinner. And lastly, you need a good hat!! I am all about protecting my face from the sun so I never go out without sunscreen and a hat. I wasn’t always that way and I totally wish I could go back and tell my younger self to take care of my skin!

I have collected some things I am loving with the best beachy vibes. These are things you can use over and over and will throw in your bag for every beach vacation you take!
